GOOOOOAAAAAALL(s)

I think I’m done with setting long-term goals.

I just read “It Doesn’t Have To Be Crazy At Work” by the founders of Basecamp. In it they talk about the fact that they don’t set #goals as a company. The focus is on six week sprints.

While I have so many questions about the book and how the information holds up 5-years later and after a pandemic (anyone at 37signals open to a discussion?), I’m thinking hard on the #goalsetting aspect.

How many times have you thought about a one year goal, let alone a five year goal, and had to scrap everything because things changed, people changed, YOU changed?

Let me be clear, I still believe in working towards something. With my clients we work in 3 & 6 month chunks. From a business perspective, I work in 3-month focus objectives and reset.

I’m still thinking on this, but how do you feel about long-term goals? Is it helpful to have them? For those of you who don’t do long-term goals, what have you found in your growth that keeps you “goal free?”
